Frequently Asked Questions
Medicaid Infrastructure Grant (MIG)
Support the Competitive Employment of People with Disabilities

South Dakota's Freedom to Work Project is a federally funded systems change grant. The purpose of the grant is to make improvements to the Medicaid system that will encourage individuals with disabilities to return to work and provide supports when they do so. The grant completed its sixth year as of December 31, 2007.

As this year's activities were winding down, the Freedom to Work FTW) (FTW) Leadership Council spent time assessing progress made during the last six years and looking ahead to activities that would support project efforts in the next few years. One outcome of that time was the recommendation that staff prepare a "Frequently Asked Questions & Answers" (FAQ) document. This document reflects those efforts.

The Leadership Council realizes that this document includes the most frequently asked questions that we can answer at this time, not all the questions many of us have, or may have, about the project. Thus, we invite you to contact our staff with additional questions you may have about the FTW Project. Contact information for the staff is listed at sd-ccd.org/ftw/staff.html.

On a final note, as exciting as this project is for the potential we believe it holds in store for persons with disabilities seeking to be employed, it is a systems change grant. Thus, some outcomes will take a considerable amount of time to reach. For other outcomes, completion will come much sooner.

We hope this document will provide you with a basic understanding of the Freedom to Work Project. Again, if it generates further questions, please contact our staff.
